We has been discussing with WeZer Team members, possible use of WeZer, for the future plans of Fair Coop (social networking, integrated voting system, marketplace, etc)

WeZer is a newly created distribution of Odoo (ex openERP) that focus on the needs of social organizations, cooperatives and so on.

Is defined as a -> a free open source cooperation platform created from Odoo to empower collective actions and communities’ sovereignty. It integrates several popular existing IT collaborative tools with professional organisational software, making an effective workflow framework.

You can download here  the white paper-> https://www.dropbox.com/s/2id1a5mmg0zpc3c/Wezer%20white%20paper%20v1.pdf?dl=0

I imagine to make plans to get WeZer as a base framework where integrate WordPress, (facilitating the migration fro the curent framework), Loomio, (as a powerful consensus, decition tool) and others. Also could be easiest to relate it with the coop wallet because both are  in phyton,

Meanwhile, FairCoin and Faircredit would be used as a moneyment payment for the marketplace, but descentralized in the blockchain..

    What do you think?

It sounds like we fit squarely into the target audience of WeZer.  It looks interesting, and I’d like to see a demo site that I can play around with to see the UI, and actually experience the things the YouTube video was advertising.

I am also concerned with their stance on security.  For example, the SSL isn’t configured properly for https://www.wezer.org/.  They need to download the intermediate cert from startssl and add a  directive to their config file (if they were using Apache it’d be SSLCertificateChainFile, I don’t know what it is for Nginx).  You can confirm this and the other problems with their encryption here https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=wezer.org

They’re running Nginx 1.2.1 (the latest version of Nginx is 1.7.7), so their web server is almost certainly vulnerable (https://nginx.org/en/CHANGES).

They appear to be using Python 2.7.3 which means they’re probably vulnerable there as well (https://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2014-1912/).

While none of these are in WeZer itself, it makes me question how much these developers value security.  There seems to be strong evidence which indicates that they don’t care about security at all.  So we have to ask ourselves, do we care about security?  Would it be OK if someone took over our server and was able to read and/or modify everything in our core infrastructure?  Personally, I would find that unacceptable.

In short, it looks like they’re really trying to help us, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending people put and personal or senstive information on servers running WeZer unless we have the code professionally audited.

I’m just starting to learn about the CIC technical infrastructure (very happy things are now in English). So far I haven’t seen evidence of a coherent strategy and things like this WordPress, Integral CES, cryptocurrencies and Loomio are totally unintegrated and overlapping.

In the old economy the producer with the best sales team wins the customer. In the fragile new economy producers should not be competing but collaborating to support their clients.

I welcome dialogue with the Wezer project, but I encourage CIC to answer these questions first, with professional advice if possible.

    1. What software licences are acceptable for CIC to use?
    2. What money and/or software skills are available from within CIC?
    3. How should resources be applied to software regarding coding, deployment, maintenance, and publishing quality packages?
    4. What movements / organisations have the most similar software requirements; what can CIC learn from / share with them

Then you can start to publish your requirements to invite support from the world, and you can have a much better conversation with projects like Wezer.

Thank you for this question, we are working on security because it is our concern too! Yannick our Python coder and hosting manager will prepare a reply to your points.

Before going in technical questions, I would invite us, as Matthew Slater suggests, to envisage a cooperation between our projets. We are not here to «sell» Wezer, instead we wish to nurish a dynamic of creation common good tools for communities. In this sense, we are serving the same purpose.

@matslats your way to present your points is a bit misleading because CIC is one thing and Fair Coop is another different thing. Some people in catalonia is involved in both, like me, but are completly independent estructures.

Here is not the space to talk about the strategical software plans of CIC, so i understand that do you want to talk about Fair Coop

Therefore,  If we discuss about this 4 questions would be interesting that all of us try to answer as Fair Coop could answer this, because Fair Coop is in their very early stages and dont have yet a plan defined from the past.

    Only we have here is:

    – A choosen of a cryptocurrency with their blockchain,

    – A short term decition to begin with wordpress because is what make easiest to set up a multilingual site + a social network in few weeks

    – Some plans to set up a new currency (faircredit) mixing mutual credit and blockchain tecnologies.

    – Possible needs to choose a more powerful integration software like wezer, for integrate different tools planned (like market and voting), that will be too much for the wordpress possibilites at middle and long term.

Neither integral CES, neither loomio has been for the moment choosen in Fair coop

Otherwise i see that this is the topic to talk about wezer, and could be interesting to setup another thread to talk about the general conditions and methods that need FairCoop when choosen free software

@enric thanks for bringing coherence. Even more is welcome. Wezer is in its early stages which means:

    • it does not yet implement all the security features available to it.
    • you would have a chance to influence development
    • it needs money – can’t do very much for free yet
    • it will change as it grows, which can annoy users.

So it is not a perfect match. However I don’t know of anything so closely aligned with your intentions. What other software is FairCoop looking at? What is CIC using for its main social networking? To what extent are the needs of FairCoop the same as the needs of CIC?

All what we are looking for Faircoop is already here on the technology forums. Cic for social networking is using the distribution of Elgg developed by the lorea collective this is the network https://cooperativa.ecoxarxes.cat  and this is another famous lorea network https://n-1.cc  (used broadly by 15m movement)

We selected buddypress for faircoop looking for integration in only one site and login (, but yet knowing that the framework could change in the future to a more strong one…

CiC is based mainly in phisical relations using technologies to help this relations, otherwise Faircoop is mainly online, So the needs are very diferent, and broad in the case of Faircoop. For example Faircoop is going to use participatory ways to decide online, like direct democracy, meanwhile CIC decides mainly in phisical assemblies.

Therefore i think that is needed in one way to setup a tools kit for global online based organizations like Faircoop and another for local/regional phisical based organizations like internal cooperatives, transitional local movements, and so on

The shared partnership between Wezer and different moviments and organizations like FairCoop goes on, this below is an extended update from Sybille
    ———————
    Namaste Wizard of transition !
I am honored to see the trust and the energy around Wezer, and to write you this 1st sum-up.
We are currently 9 parners from 8 countries !
    Budget : total forecast 557K€, 768 days / spent : 178K€, 232 days (only 30K€ in €uros)
400 users in end of January 15
About working process, it’s quite good even if always more slow than wished
    – OCA (Odoo Community Association) has approved us as « Community verticalization » for our modules (thanx Yannick !)
    – CHANT DES POSSIBLES is making the « Wezer #exchange for CIEDESS receipt », that will mark our version 1.0. They are also starting touching business networks…
    – very soon Wezer #exchange will be used daily in SEL AUDONIEN (biggest LETS in France), COUD’A COUDE (social LETS)
    – VALEUREUX is using the largest Wezer existing now, still rough and not CMSed, and even very useful and motivating to go further in smoothing it!
WEZER.org is flowing all our work around Wezer (mutual support, bugs report, improvements & new features management / contributions in all kind / documentations / users & partners) using #exchange & #action to manage tasks linked to demands, and asap #emergence
    – KOINA is using marketplace and transactions modules… i wish to here more soon about it…
    – COMEETY has chosen to develop its sociacratic platform on Odoo. Thus Wezer #emergence will be developed together. Each will have possibility to use it in the Wezer collection, or in an autonomous Comeety one
    – some others Organisations are up to choose Odoo for their IT needs (La Louve, Eurocyclage…) and will join Wezer factory
    – FAIR-COOP are starting playing with their Wezer #exchange. Later Wezer may be a piece of their Cooperative toolbox
    – MUTUAL AID NETWORK core team will soon play with Wezer #exchange & #action. Later Wezer may be a piece of their Community toolbox
    – many networks, associations, cowering spaces, cities show a real interest. We need to structured our support and setup team to serve them well, that’s why we have focused on the « Wezer #exchange v1.0 receipt »
    – we are waiting for the reply of Pizzigati prize (10K$)
    – we are taking with LUSH, the ethical cosmetic entreprise, about funding
    – January 1l3th we celebrate Wezer launch in PARIS, in La Fabrik Coopérative
I am enjoying that Wezer development process is attune to its Raison d’Etre.
We are cooperating to build a cooperative tools, congruent isn’t it ?
Our challenges are various, and we may give some energy on parts we have a power on.
Partnership agreements is one I wish we weave together.
I draw here maps   of us to help us envision what we wish/need/choose :  WEZER – flux écosystème v2-1
    – map 1, 2 represents agreed actors and flows (2 is real flows passing through Valeureux, 1 with Wezer as a Hub)
    – map 3, 4, 5 represents coming actors and flows (3 only actors, 2 is real flows passing through Valeureux, 1 with Wezer as a Hub)

As we are walking in quite unknown territory, and I don’t see ‘ordinary’ agreements fiting here.
I wish we altogether design and manage what we wish/need.
My proposition is to create a « Wezer Partners Circle » aiming to « develop & support Wezer ».
zach organisation have 2 sits on the circle : 1 taking WPC tensions to its organisation, 2 bringing its organisations tensions to WPC (= sociacratic double link)
each member has a consent power on  strategic decisions for Wezer development and partnerships agreements.
1 monthly meeting, some collaborative rooms and tracking contributions and weath (using Wezer.org to facilitate and make transparent our actions)
Our next common action could be a ‘collective crowdfunding’ campaign, asking donations for building « Sharing economy IT commons » to be free from private-fake-social & sharing-platforms
Please considering my sociacratic proposition, and share your :
    1. clarification questions
    2. opinion/reaction/suggestion statement
    3. consent OR objection with explanation
and add your updates, suggestions, insights in general…

Thanks for your attention and commitment

Hope you enjoy riding with us too
    Blessings
    S*

Hi, first post but we’ve been watching FairCoop off and on since it began. We see in the very interesting WeZer white paper

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/2id1a5mmg0zpc3c/Wezer%20white%20paper%20v1.pdf?dl=0

a plan of «designing ERP to become NRP» (Network Resources Planning).

We’re already working on NRP with https://www.sensorica.co/ and others. Running instance: https://nrp.sensorica.co/

In Python, too (like WeZer). Here’s the code: https://github.com/valnet/valuenetwork

Stacco and Orsan of FairCoop are aware of us. We don’t want to compete with WeZer, we think OpenERP and Odoo are awesome projects. We’d rather help them evolve into NRP. We are also working with the Open Apps Ecosystem to develop a Linked Open Data vocabulary and protocol for internetworking, so all kinds of 2017.fair.coops, open coops, value networks, etc. can collaborate economically. https://github.com/openvocab/ovn

We’re mostly heads down coding but would like to start talking to WeZer people and would like to do that in the context of FairCoop, if that is ok with everybody. We’ll also make contact over in the WeZer context.

    This is us: https://mikorizal.org

We’re very old software developers. I have a lot of experience with ERP and supply chain software, which leads us to believe that NRP is the way to go for next-economy organizations.

    Hello Bob

I know Sensorica-P2P value work from last Ouishare festival in Paris, and through my involvement with Symba. Your project is amazing and I am so pleased to hear from you. Actually I’ve tried without success to contact you until now 😉

Yes we should coordinate our efforts to develop, integrate, flow all needed functionalities for communities in a commons framework open, user-friendly and effective.

Wezer is a new born baby, for years in my womb and matured within Valeureux experiences of interlacing human and techno to actualize all form of wealth (see my bio and presentation in the WP).

Currently we are delivering our first 3 communities, structuring our team and processes, and weaving partnerships.

So we have done only the first steps according to our vision (see White Paper) that was fortunately enough to create a collaborative dynamic around it. There are already 2 IT projects working on it (Koina, Comeety), and 2 cooperative (Fair-Coop and Mutual Aid Network) partnering to make it happen. We are also developing partnership with geeks (OCA Odoo community, Simplon open IT school, Fing…) and touching many others…

I am quite proud of our existing achievement and also very aware that we alone cannot satisfy all our stakeholders’ needs.

As I feel we are all serving the same Purpose and walking in an unknown territory, I wish to co-create 2017.fair.cooperation with you.

Same as you, I don’t want to compete, actually Valeureux is a non-profit association and I am devoting all my energies since 10 years to unleash a fair and joyful society.

Here are some materials about Wezer dynamic:

I propose as a first step, to have a talk on Skype ASAP @etoiledejoie to connect our heart, and from here draw a road map.

Some conversations may be appropriate here in Fair-coop, others in Wezer space and in Github, and even more personally.

I am now devoting my attention to weave and nourish these collaborative dynamic, while Florent, Yannick, Julien, Christophe, Franck are doing the work to make Wezer usable. I will so travel to UK, USA, Lithuania to connect more.

Thanks Life to unleash my deep dreams!

Thanks You, Us to manifest it!

Been thinking about this whole tech infrastructure thing. Whilst I can see the value of building on a broad platform like Odoo/Wezer, there’s a whole lot of development that is going to be required to create a robust and user-friendly platform. For the last few years I’ve been working with Drupal and CiviCRM, which integrate very nicely and provide a powerful solution that could meet a lot of the perceived requirements pretty quickly and without thousands of developer hours. And it opens up the opportunity to leverage the very large contrib module base that’s available with Drupal. Things like Drupal Commons and Drupal Commerce.

Then I saw this post the other day on the CiviCRM forums (https://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=34702.0) that mentions existing integration between CiviCRM and Odoo, and this got me to wondering whether there might be mileage for the codeheads in this group to take a look at that option.

Forgive me if you’ve already been around that block, but thought I’d mention it.

@graham Drupal interests are represented here don’t worry. The reason that wezer exists is that Drupal’s workflow was very poor and that I didn’t have time to integrate all the workflow features Sybille said were needed into my Hamlets package https://drupal.org/project/cforge. From that perspective, the up and coming Odoo framework was a good choice. In other respects there are drawbacks – many modules are immature, the community isn’t as reciprocative.

I’m unclear about exactly how and where Integral CES is being deployed, but if that system added new tools they would surely be used.

The prospect of Civi CRM in Odoo is interesting!

Dear Enric and Fair Coop IT team

I reply here to your ask for help setting «multi store» Odoo modules and your refuse to been invoiced (see emails bellow).

FYI we can reset your Wezer instance if needed, and soon you’ll be autonomous on that.

    General Human side comments

Actually, we, Valeureux team, are not feeling well in this collaboration, not feeling been involved, respected and in a reciprocal relation. We have faith in Fair Coop and wish to contribute better to its development. We see a high possibility of empowering both propositions by being more attune and sharing more.

As we are not a IT company, we will not provide support for neither modules not include in Wezer, nor the implication that they can have on Wezer running. We wish to improve what we have and not chasing several hares.

Our needs to continue fruitful collaboration:

    • Feeling more peer cooperation, instead of provider / customer relation
    • Letting us advise you by informing us more on your needs, your visions, your constraints, your resources
    • Knowing your roadmap
    • Designing together Wezer & FairMarket roadmaps
    • Receiving your help and not being only the one who help you blindly and suddenly

    General IT side comments

    • ERP offers a large amount of modules, all more desirable than others BUT the number of modules installed increase exponentially the complexity to integrate them together
    • We had focus on user friendliness and customizablization and choose carefully each modules
    • Our new developed modules are based on inherited fields, so they will follow the further updates
    • Hacking modules by forking from inheritance put further updates in danger

    Multistore modules specifications

    • Based on Multiple Society features
    • Based on Sales & Purchase flows
    • Ned to plug a banking system

    • PROS
      • Visitors can choose products from all local shops
      • Member fill their shopping cart with many products
      • Delivery is based on the whole shopping cart
      • Each local shop
        • propose its specific products, price
        • can define specific Sales Terms, delivery management
        • can have a specific layout
      • Local admin see only his sales accounting records
      • Global admin see the global activity
      • Based on product management so can be linked to stock management
      • Use warehouse management (purchase, delivery, storage, picking, inventory…)
    • CONS
      • Start from a very complex module with many interactions with others modules and then simplify it (BIG à SIMPLE)
      • It is a module made by some one in Odoo community but not validated by Odoo. There are many modules attractive but for now, no way to know their quality
      • Only one currency
      • Only Offers of Products with 1 price, no Wants, no negotiation
      • Obliged to use warehouse management that is quite heavy and not applicable to services

    Wezer proposition

    • Based on Simple Society features
    • Based on Announcement & Reply flows
    • PROS
      • Code is cleaned and inherited, validated by OCA
      • Modules will be updated regularly thanks to users request
      • Start from a simple module with few interactions with others modules and then expand it (SIMPLE à BIG)
      • Visitors can choose Products and Services from all local shops
      • Member buy/sell 1 Announcement at a time
      • Delivery is based on 1 Announcement
      • Each local shop
        • Propose its specific Products and Services, prices
        • Can have a specific home page
      • Local admin see only his sales accounting records by filtering
      • Global admin see the global activity
      • Multiple currencies
      • Multiple indicators
      • Offers and Wants of Products and Service and Negotiation
      • Free from using use warehouse management
    • CONS
      • Member don’t have a shopping cart with many products
      • Delivery cost is given in each Announcement
      • Cannot define local Sales Terms, delivery management
      • Not based on product management so cannot be linked to stock management

    • What need to be done in Wezer to satisfy your need for local shops management
      • Use Groups (=Partners) to delimited Offers & Wants by shops
      • Add users rights by local shop
        • Need clear specifications, then ½ day setup
      • Activate management group for type = ‘society’ with specific public home page by society/shop, filled by defined fields in shop profiles
        • MAN needs it too, 1 day setup
      • Create ‘invoice’ step and validate chart of accounts
        • CSBV needs it too, need accounting validation, then 1 day setup
      • Plug a banking system
        • CIEDESS needs it too, select bank then ½ to 4 days depending of the bank requirements (Paypal, Ogone, Adyen, Buckaroo ½ day)
        • Need to be specified to plug with Fair Coin banking system

    Thank your for your attention

Hope to earing from you soon

but also that we are going to offer improved tools for wezer. This will include new modules not only cryptocurrencies, but also collective purchases, between others.
Anyway i am waiting to talk with a developer that i will be working with during this next week, to be fully sure of our roadmap, related odoo, wezer and fairmarkek
and we will share this. in fact i was waiting for it, to communicate with you again.
    best regards,

    Hello friends from Valeureux.

I am a newcomer, and will be working in the implementation of the fairmarket alongside with the rest of the team. Just wanted to say hello and drop a few lines about Fair Market.

After reading this forum’s posts and talking to Enric, I find it necessary to bring the process back to a positive and clear focus. On this, I’ll make the effort to summarize the process and goals, in order to shed some light on the chance of a collaboration that looks potentially great, not only for the several collectives involved, but mainly for the commons.

    1. What Fair Market is:

As Enric described to me, the Fair Market is a tool that will let everyone, producers, and consumers (or let’s say “prosumers”) share, sell and buy goods, items, services, etc. in the frame of collaborative and ethic economy.

From that basis, Odoo, and the development of Wezer, seem to be a nice tool for our needs, as it let’s us combine economic and social techs. I’ve been looking at Wezer and I’d like to thank you for making that nice work.

    2. The basic needs for Fair Market:

Starting from enric’s proposal, and what we are discussing here, is that Fairmarket needs are simple, although we may still not have reached that optimum:

2.1. The ability of building an online store, connected to a checkout. Buyers may then be able to look for products in a categorized way, or even better, to take a look to someone’s store to find all of a seller’s products and buy everything in the same action.

These stores, which configure a marketplace, should be able to sell by this checkout, and this is one of the points to improve right now, as far as I see.

2.2 To give to every shop a front page with a specific link to promote themselves.

    2.3. Integration with FairCoin wallet.

2.4. A reputation system, that adds a layer of distributed trustfulness.

    3. An issue to solve:

As far as i know, there was a budget from Valeureux at the beginning, to install an Odoo seed for FairMarket with #exchange module + admin training + champion training – including wordpress integration – which was accepted.

Later on, Enric realised that #exchange was not exactly what Fairmarket needs. This information was shared inside Faircoop ecosystem council and we agreed to continue collaborating with Wezer but make a revision of the agreement, because Faircoop needs to focus in developing Odoo, and reach the wezer compatibility in a further phase.

After a meeting around january 26rh, Enric and Florian stated that a revision of the agreement was needed, for FairCoop to develop Fairmarket and keep it integrated into Wezer Platform, looking forward to share a collaborative economy, that would include server costs, etc. and starting to develop techs toghether. That would result in benefit both for Fair Coop and Valeureux (and again, the commons), as we are clearly talking about open source software).

    4. How to build FairMarket & Wezer in a Collaborative way.

Being aware of the costs of development and programming, it seems clear to me that we could better see the process of developing together in a collaborative way, where everyone will benefit from the results.

Plus, as we do not want to disrupt the relation work<=>retribution<=>commons, the bounties system (https://fair.to/aJmeY) proposed by FairCoop for funding cooperative improvements will do fine for these needs to be solved in a fair way.

All this improvements will be open source and able to be added then as wezer tools, for being used by wezer for other communities and partnerships.

This point of the bountie seems also very important to me, for I think we really need to promote the creation of (at least) one “techs” workgroup inside FairCoop, well coordinated, that empower and materialize the needs of the global project at its first stages.

This, that could be discussed from now on, would let us define a necessary point of arrival for the flow that starts from the commons needs and creativity.

Please, let’s talk about this and just define it very clearly to carry on with the good work.

    Salud!

    Thank you Sauko

your roadmap and needs are more clear. I still doubt your choice to go with multi-shops module instead of helping us to improve #exchange.

We have started wezer.org (+ github) to post bounties about Wezer development, and also manage projects, tasks, discussion, helpdesk using a internal acknoledgment currency «VAL». I see your bounties cpmplementary to ours in order to attract Fair-coop people to help on Wezer.

I hope we can coordinate about further developements.

FYI We will apply on Call CAPS ICT-10-2015, would you like to be one of our partner ?

      Hi Sybille!

      Thanks for your feedback.

Actually, our interest in testing Odoo multi-stores came from our need to start Fairmarket soon with something more advanced than simple stores. As Wezer Marketplace isn’t completely ready for fulfilling FairMarket’s needs (checkout, faircoin, etc), our intention was to at least try those multi-stores. But we have neither been able to make it work, so, what we are thinking is of begining with the simple Store Module that comes bundled in Odoo. Of course it will be nice to help improve wezer marketplace! but we need to talk about times first because FairMarket needs to start soon, and it will be cool if the marketplace is ready, but we don’t know yet!

As for development, I’d like to share with you one point of view, that if we focus from it, we don’t actually need to talk of Wezer or FairMarket in terms of development. What I mean is that in the end we are talking about Odoo, which is the platform for which we shall develop Open Source. So, starting from there, we may start by parking specific identities (Wezer, FairMarket, FairMondo, EthicalBay, GoCoop), and thoghether, form a distributed team for code development and cofunding that gives us all new tools to cover our needs.

This is important because we are used to have local projects in need of creating the whole infraestructure in terms of knowledge, tech development, economy, etc.

Instead of that, and engagin’ with FairCoop’s goals, why not just build toghether globally, in order to empower projects locally? We have started communications with other similar projects like EthicalBay (Uk), Fairmondo (De) and GoCoop (India), in order to propose them to start thinking together into building a decentralized network of markets, whom may share techs and infrastructure investment, whom may be focused to more localized market, and federated with each other to share users, transactions, currencies (FairCoin), etc. We could even develop apps for letting users/sellers build and control their profiles and stores in their devices, and «open» or publish them in several markets worldwide that use the same Odoo tech.
@duthac already started ideas for sharing knowledge in this thread.
So it is ok for me to be in one BIG development team (though I am not a developer 🙂 only concept designer and admin).Talking to the pals from EthicalBay, we knew they already built a development team to start working soon.It will be easier if we join forces and bounties in order to develop what we all need. I can see this clearly.Maybe we could start by doing online meetings and open a new workgroup here as we are all already engaged here. It will be fine for us to be member of Valereux of course!

So, what do you think? @sybillevaleureux, @efedin

@sauko This approach makes a lot of sense to my mind. I’m not a coder either, but I can see that what lies ahead in order to get FairMarket ready for prime time is a lot of work. Spreading that load as widely as possible, with the goal of also maximising the value of that work amongst partners such as ethicalbay.coop and fairmondo.de seems like an obvious way to move forward.

    sure Sauko

we are also building parnetships around cooperation platform:

French partnerships: Simon, Plateforme des association, Social Planet, Ekologia, Colibri
free world possible partnerships: Talcod, EpnAdmin
international partnerships: Community Forge, Fair coop, Comeety, Sensorica, Mikorizal, Enspiral

we are really in the same Spirit!

yes lets’ coordinate our efforts, while not becoming ‘too big to move’. What do you think about using wezer.org as the more precise bounty platform, or github (more for coders discussion).

So I understand you are choosing official Odoo modules, so you will pay them a monthly fee ? Have you heard about new move of Odoo editor, that is starting to close new parts of codes, due to their new VC people?

«Have you heard about new move of Odoo editor, that is starting to close new parts of codes, due to their new VC people?»

This rings alarm bells for me. Are we talking about potentially building FairMarket on top of a platform that is not open source?

    Hello friends.

I don’t think it is a matter of choosing:

    1. We are all starting from Odoo. Odoo is for now open source.

    2. We are all going to develop new technologies. We may use all the resources, all the bounties, and have the commons and each project obtaining benefit from that.

@sybillevaleureux could you please share more info about that Odoo closed code plans?

Wezer is essentially an Odoo open source multi-install + a set of Odoo open source modules being developed by you. What is your stance on that issue of closed code that you comment?

Odoo is open source nowadays, if it goes closed someday we can simply fork it and continue developing it as open source. @graham

It would be great also if you make a deeper explanation of Wezer bounties and how you plan to work.

I think we need to make an effort together to be the most clear and precise when drawing all possibilities and resources, and once we all have the same information, build bridges to start promoting synergies among all parts. If we all agree we could start a new thread together to put all of the resources and information in common + start a new collaborative doc for documenting it.

    Salud!

@sauko – Of course the code can be forked, and if the corporation behind Odoo choose to close it, I’m sure there will be many that will fork it. But, it will weaken the project if one of the major players (perhaps the major payer) decides they don’t to play openly any more. It is a risk that Fair.coop needs to be aware of.

Apologies, I’ll try to explain my point more clearly: Any open source software project is only as strong as the community that coalesces around it: users, developers, service providers.

I don’t know the Odoo project or how strong that community is. My point is that there is a private company at its heart. MySQL is in a similar position. When Oracle took control of MySQL many people who had until then been keen supporters of MySQL took flight fearing the negative impact that Oracle’s ownership might have. MariaDB was created as an alternative project, and the MyDQL community was weakened. The MySQL community is very large and has survived, and as far asI can see, is thriving.

But if the company at the centre of the Odoo project is in process of privatising the code for the project, and perhaps releasing a second class product for community use, then there is a risk to the open source software product. If that community is not strong then such a change could be severely damaging, perhaps fatally.

It is simply a risk that should be taken into account, nothing more. Those closer to what is going on will have a much better view of the situation than I.

    Hi to all,

I introduce myself, I’m going to try to contribute in some way for make the project of FairMarket a reality. I’ll be working as much as I can until the moment that we’ll have some kind of beta working properly with all functionalities we need.

I’ve been looking the possiblities of the odoo system and the diferent opensource projects related that are available on the web.
About that, the work that you people of wezer are doing, I mean, the project of community/marketplace that yannick develop it’s awesome work and I’m sure that could be an excelent module for the FairMarket in order to offer to the users the chance to offer or demand services, as individuals, not as a shop. But the point is, we also need more.

What I think is that we need to develop a modification of the ‘store’ that allow us to not only to show all the products by categories, wich is the base of the original odoo store, we also need to offer the possibility to view all the products of individual companies/stores.

About that, for what I’ve been looking I think that the multicompanies module that come originaly with the odoo it’s enought powerfull to allow that. But we have to make some mods on the website_store modules to show all the products of individual shops.
I’ve to study how to implement that, and I would love to have some help in that, because I’m not so familiar with the odoo or even with python, anyway I guess that with some time I will be able to solve this limitations.

I installed, working locally, the repositories vertical_comunity 8.0, from Yannick with success, but I’m having problems installing the frontend of this repository, both, the community-web-master, and also the wezer mod all aviable on the github. Don’t know now why, I will be happy to know something more about this, in order to be sure that we can work with that good modules.

Anyway, in the next days I’m going to try to start working on this mod of the website_store, to be able to show all the shops, and all the products of the shop. As I say, I would love to have help in that.

Also, I wanna know your worries and thoughts in order to be able to create a good enviroment to make possible and soon the FairMarket!

Sorry for the long speech, have good night and my best wishes to all!
